Candle making blog
It was a steep learning curve to learn how to make better quality soy candles that aligned with my health goals. I had to consider which waxes were best/safest, different wick & burning rates, use of essential oils vs chemical fragrances, safe candle containers, safety labels, regulations about product labels and packaging. What had I gotten myself into? I loved the learning (and still do!)🍃

Candles don’t just pour themselves!
I’ve had to do lots of research on best clean natural waxes, pouring temperatures, wood vs cotton wick, essential oils vs fragrance oils and methods for combating frosting, tunneling and weak scent throw. Then there is staying up to date with candle styling, novelty molds, scent and seasonal trends. More work to source suppliers of suitable glassware, bulk soy coco wax mixtures, stocking a variety of glassware. And then there was finding a room and organizing all the bits and bobs! Followed by more more research on supplier labels and legal requirements for labelling. I needed to skill up to design labels, and do the social and first person marketing and sales.
Finally, I was ready to start my first pours in the Spring of 2021. I did my first craft show in November 2021 and made back most of the funds that I’d invested getting to this point. I’m still investing, researching and having fun. My future goal is to step up the packaging and sales.
Early bumps on the road from my blog
Only a couple of days ago, I fumbled my wax melt pot and spilt hot wax over my glassware and papered counter ( big clean up). Regardless of mishaps, I’m feeling more confident then a few months ago.
I’m always learning like when I first tested a wooden wick. See video below that I sent to have a friend advise me what to do. Too bad I’m an experiential learner … My burnt finger will remind me not to film and use my finger to measure a flame 🔥 🩹
